Clinical Medicine and Oncology of the dog and cat

CONTACTS

The services offered by the Section of Clinical Medicine at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) of the Veterinary Medicine Campus of Valenzano include first level general medicine and second level (reference) activities. General Medicine activities (first level) are carried out on all animals brought by handlers/owners (first visits). Moreover services are provided to external veterinarians for their patients. The  first visits allow, through a general screening, to evaluate the state of health of the animal and to identify pathological signs for subsequent assignment to one of the specialised areas of the VTH (Surgery, Obstetrics, Infectious, etc.). In addition to the medical examination of the patient, the general medicine service also makes use of laboratory and instrumental diagnostic tests, including diagnostic imaging  and a series of professional skills and services: Cardiology unit, Unit for canine Leishmaniasis, Nefrology and Urology unit, Neurology unit  and Oncology unit.

The Medical Clinic Unit includes three veterinary diagnostic laboratories that are the hematology and cytology laboratory (LAB 1), the clinical chemistry laboratory (LAB 2), and the parasitology diagnostic laboratory (LAB 3). In these laboratories, diagnostic investigations are carried out on biological samples in animals of veterinary interest (mainly companion and farm animals).
